For Day 1 we will make the straps or button loop and attach them to the main fabric!

Create the Straps or Button Loop

Making the Straps for View A and C

With right sides together fold entire strip in half (length wise) and press. Stitch along the short and long side of the strap, leaving one short side open for turning.

Backtack at the start and end of each row to prevent fraying. Trim the edges to 1⁄4 inch and cut a diagonal on the corner, turn and press. You can use a roulette turner or tweezers to help turn the straps the right way. Repeat for the second strap.

Making the Button Loop for View B and D

To make the button closure cut a piece of fabric 1 inch (2.5cm) by 3 inches (7.5cm). Fold the button loop piece in half lengthwise (wrong sides together) and press.

Open out and fold along each long edge into the centre line and press. Fold back together and stitch along the long edge, backtaking at the start and finish. Fold the piece in half width wise as shown matching the two short edges and baste together.

Attach Straps or Button Loop to Cape Body

Attach the straps to the main body of the cape 1⁄2 inch (1.25cm) down from the neckline on the centre front of each side of the main fabric. Baste in place.

Attach the button loop to your chosen side of the centre front of the main fabric 1⁄2 inch (1.25cm) down from the neckline as pictured and baste in place.
