Vintage Twirl Skirts

After making the Vintage Twirl Dresses  I had a pink strip left over. It was meant to be the bottom of Amelie's dress but it made them too long, so I promised her I would make it into a skirt!

So these became the second garment in the Summer series of clothes:

Clementine's Skirt:

Amelie's Skirt:

With the yellow section, I used a pre-gathered strip from a dress of mine - I don't like how it turned out but not enough to change it! Amelie noticed the minimised twirl instantly but got over it pretty quickly!

Vintage Twirl Dresses

This week I began the first of my summer sewing for the girls.

I want to use my stash of special fabrics to make some clothes for them before they get too big!

First up are two twirl dresses in my favourite style - using lots of vintage fabrics and trim!

I love that I could finally use my little doilies to make sleeves and I had enough vintage fabric to create unique looks for the girls! Amelie picked a rainbow mix and Clementine wanted an all blue dress!

To create the dresses I used an existing bodice pattern and squared the neckline:

I inserted the sleeves when I joined the bodice fabric and lining together.

To make the tiers I cut each fabric 1.5 times the width of the previous one and added 1" to the length.

I used 3 different vintage buttons on Clementine's dress and a lace trim on her hem line. The lace is beautiful and very fine - hopefully it will survive her wear and tear!

I trimmed Amelie's dress with a yellow ric rac to brighten the last tier!

The girls love them and Amelie has been wearing hers everyday since it was finished!

Let the twirling begin!

Studio Spring Clean Reveal!

This week we've been working hard painting and cleaning up the house!

Here is the big reveal with before and after shots!

BEFORE

My messy and poorly painted room!

DURING

The first step was to clear everything out of the studio...an insane task...how to I accumulate so much stuff?

Then Andy got stuck in and painted it all for me...another HUGE task!

(a quick snap at night before I moved everything back in!)

Once it was back in I had to sort through this fine pile...

AFTER

And then finally after much sorting, cleaning, and chucking out I have a nice clean and freshly painted room to work with!

Here's a little tour around my studio for you:

Now time to get stuck into some big sewing jobs!

(and to get some updated photos of Clementine and Atticus for the studio!)

Ponyo Costumes for the Girls!

Amelie has been asking every year for a Ponyo as a fish costume...but I've been so busy I keep saying no...but I have finally done it!

The girls also needed a larger costume with Ponyo as a human so I made one of each so they could share!

And a little trip down memory lane...Amelie in her first Ponyo costume...

...and the first Ponyo as a fish costume I made!

Craft Time

The girls love craft time...and I try to give them something to do each day....but as it can get crazy this doesn't always happen!

Here are a few fun things we have been getting up to this past month:

Amelie drew on some fabric to make a dress for her Lalaloopsy:

She drew herself, then me and Clementine!

I made it into a little dress with an elastic collar:

Clementine was begging for some play doh so we made up a pink batch and she had a ball (or seven)!

They both had some fun with glitter craft...we are still finding it everywhere but they love it!

Let me know if you have any awesome craft ideas...

Interesting Tales....
